Seahawks sign former first-round pick LB Mike Croel Posted: Wed July 15, 1998 at 5:11 p.m. EDT Linebacker Mike Croel, the fourth overall pick of the 1991 NFL draft who played in NFL Europe this spring, today signed with the Seattle Seahawks.Croel was Denver's first-round selection in 1991 out of Nebraska and played four seasons with the Broncos before joining the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens for a season apiece. In 90 games, including 84 starts, he compiled 479 tackles, 20 1/2 sacks and two interceptions. The 29-year-old did not play in the league last year and was a member of the Rhein Fire this spring. Seattle also signed safety Kerry Joseph, who was with the Cincinnati Bengals in 1996 but was inactive each game. He played for London of NFL Europe this spring. "Both guys have the opportunity to come in and make a mark on the team," said vice president/football operations Randy Mueller. "Croel is an explosive pass rusher, while Joseph is a gifted athlete whom we're going to try in the defensive backfield."
