Complete squad Moss inks 4-year deal with VikingsPosted: Monday July 27, 1998 05:29 PM
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Receiver Randy Moss, the Minnesota Vikings' top draft pick, signed a four-year contract worth about $4.5 million Sunday. "Now that I'm here, my prayers have been answered," Moss said as he pulled into the parking lot at the Vikings' training camp at Mankato State. Moss, an All-American from Marshall, will receive a $2 million signing bonus. Although Moss was projected as a top five pick, he tumbled to No. 21 largely because of a series of off-the-field problems during college. "I'm satisfied," Moss said. "I know my next contract will be bigger. I really don't worry too much about the money right now as long as my family is taken care of." With Moss' signing, the Vikings had all their players under contract by the first day of training camp. "We're real excited about that, and we're excited about Randy," team vice president Jeff Diamond said. "This is a good deal for both sides." The 6-foot-5 Moss caught 53 touchdown passes in two seasons at Marshall and finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting last season. He is expected to fill the Vikings' third receiver position, joining Cris Carter and Jake Reed. "There's plenty of footballs to go around," coach Dennis Green said. "We want to run the football, but if we get enough first downs, we can get the ball to the receivers."
