Sideline injury Redskins place Hostetler on IR, ending his seasonPosted: Friday September 25, 1998 12:54 AM
ASHBURN, Virginia (AP) -- Jeff Hostetler, who wanted to leave Washington and play for another team after his demotion to third-string, instead had his season ended Wednesday when the Redskins placed him on injured reserve. General manager Charley Casserly said Hostetler re-injured his right knee on the sideline during Sunday's 24-14 loss at Seattle. "He said his leg was hit and that caused the instability in the knee," said Casserly, who added that he didn't learn of the injury until Tuesday night. Hostetler was replaced on the roster by Casey Weldon. For the second straight Wednesday, Hostetler cleaned out his locker and drove off in his white Mercedes, not expecting to return. Last week, the 15-year veteran said he did it because he had requested his release and thought it had been granted. But the Redskins refused to let Hostetler go, and he returned the next day amid confusion that made for an embarrassing week for the organization.
