There's Parcells, then everyone else Posted: Tuesday October 20, 1998 03:07 PM
Hi, I'm Bill Parcells and you're nobody. I know everything and you know nothing. How many teams have you coached to the Super Bowl? Next question. I walk into a room and a football team immediately is about 14 points better than it was before. I even walk out of the room and the team is better. Did you catch that little act last week when I took my assistants and left the practice field? Let the boys stew in their miserable juices for a while. Let them think about themselves. Did you catch the Monday night result? Hah. New York Jets 24, New England Patriots 14. Hah. If I were coaching the Patriots and you -- or that Pete Carroll guy or Amos Alonzo Stagg or anybody -- were coaching the Jets, what do you think the result would have been? Next question. I'm going to tell you this once and only once: The best motivation in all of sports is fear. Get that little edge of nervousness working in a guy's soul and he's going to sing like he never sang before. Understand? A slap on the back isn't nearly as efficient as a good slap on the back of the head. This is a man's game and I know how to manipulate men. I know when to walk, when to talk, when to pull the levers to get the electricity working. Understand? I'm Bill Parcells. I'm the best in this football business. Now stop bothering me.
