WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- Detroit Lions wide receiver Germane Crowell and another man were arrested early Friday for driving while impaired and reckless driving.

Germane Crowell, who was a star at North Forsyth High School, was clocked at over 110 mph on U.S. 52 North in Winston-Salem at about 4 a.m., according to police reports.

Police said Crowell was racing another man, Jacob W. Hughes, 22, of Winston-Salem.

Crowell graduated from the University of Virginia in 1998 and just finished his rookie season for Detroit where he had 25 catches for 464 yards and three TDs.

He had a blood-alcohol level of .12 percent, according to warrants. The legal limit in North Carolina is .08 percent.

Crowell, 22, of Rochester Hills, Mich., was released from the Forsyth County Jail on $1,000 bond about an hour after his arrest.

Crowell's first court appearance is scheduled for Monday.

A spokesman for the Lions said team officials had no comment on Crowell's arrest.

Hughes, who refused a blood-alcohol test, was released from jail into the custody of a friend or family member.
