Reports: Raiders sign QB Gannon to $16 million deal

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Quarterback Rich Gannon, a backup for
most of his four seasons with Kansas City, has signed with the Oakland Raiders,
according to a published report.
Details of the contract were not available, but it is believed to be
in the range of $16 million for four years, the San Francisco Examiner
reported Sunday, citing unidentified sources.
Neither Raiders spokesman Mike Taylor not Gannon's agent, Ken Kremer,
returned phone calls from The Associated Press seeking comment Saturday.
The Raiders lost Jeff
George, their starter the last two seasons, on Thursday after he
activated a "void" clause in his contract and became an unrestricted free
agent. The team has two other quarterbacks under contract - journeyman
Andre Ware and Pat
Barnes.
Gannon, an 11-year veteran, became a fan favorite in four seasons with
the Chiefs. He mostly backed up Steve Bono and Elvis Grbac.
Last season, Gannon appeared in 12 games, completing 206 of 354 passes
(58.2 percent) for 2,304 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. He
also has logged stints in Minnesota (1987-92) and Washington (1993).
The St. Louis Rams
also expressed interest in Gannon, 33.
