WASHINGTON (CNN/SI) -- Free agent quarterback Trent Green has rejected the Washington Redskins' initial offer and had a long visit with the St. Louis Rams on Saturday, according to published reports.

Green rejected the Redskins' offer of about $12 million over four years and expects an offer from the Rams on Sunday, the Washington Post reported.

Sunday's St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Rams had a limo waiting for Green at Lambert Airport on Saturday and team president John Shaw greeted him in person at Rams Park to begin the team's courtship.

Green, a native of St. Louis, spent about four hours meeting at the team's headquarters, including time watching film with Mike Martz, who has coached the Redskins' quarterbacks for the past two seasons and is now the Rams offensive coordinator.

Green told the Post-Dispatch that the first step in the evaluation process went smoothly.

"It went really well," Green told the newspaper. "This is an outstanding facility. I was surprised when I pulled up how nice a place this is. They've done a great job. Just walking through the complex, you can see everything is first-rate."

Green said he also met with Rams coach Dick Vermeil during his time at Rams Park.

"He was very up front, forward and honest with me," Green said. "I felt good about the talk I had with him."

Green said he spoke with Vermeil about potential competition with incumbent starter Tony Banks, but wouldn't elaborate on what Vermeil told him.

"I know where I stand, and when I go to make my decision, I feel comfortable with what Coach Vermeil has told me in terms of how it's going to be approached once we get to training camp," he told the Post-Dispatch.

Green went to St. Louis' Vianney High School and his parents have been Rams season-ticket holders since the team moved there from Los Angeles four years ago.

Green's agent, Jim Steiner, told the Post the Redskins' proposal was a "cursory" offer.

"I accept that it's a cursory opening offer with the caveat that they want to sign Trent Green," Steiner told the newspaper. "I take it as a sign of faith that they want to sign Trent Green."

The Redkins are also interested in Ravens tackle Orlando Brown, who visited Redskin Park on Friday.
