Salary cap shuffle Eagles unload starting LB Willis, sign RB BosticPosted: Tuesday June 08, 1999 11:30 PM
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Linebacker James Willis was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday after four years with the team. The team also re-signed running back James Bostic to a one-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Willis, 26, started 44 games for the Eagles, including all 16 last year. Head coach Andy Reid said Willis did "a very nice job for this team. We're going to give him an opportunity to hook up with someone else and to compete for a starting position." The linebacker played for two seasons with the Green Bay Packers before coming to Philadelphia. Bostic saw limited action for the Eagles in 1998, playing on special teams for two games. He joined the team as a mid-season addition to the practice squad and was promoted to the 53-man roster in November.
