MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Dallas stars Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman were forced from Monday night's game against Minnesota, Smith with a broken bone in his right hand, and Aikman with what was described as a "minor concussion."
Smith left after running for two touchdowns in a span of 18 seconds in the second quarter, breaking the fourth metacarpal bone in his right hand on the second run.
Aikman was lifted for Jason Garrett after being sacked on the final play of Dallas' first second-half possession. He had been hurt last week after being hit in Indianapolis and complained of headaches during the week.
This was the sixth concussion of Aikman's 11-year career, the most recent coming two seasons ago. He finished 14-of-24 for 129 yards, while Smith carried 13 times for 140 yards in less than a half.
Smith had broken loose for a 63-yard touchdown run with 6:21 left in the second quarter. Then he scored again 18 seconds later after Charlie Williams recovered a fumble on the kickoff.
Both men were at or close to milestones.
Smith's second touchdown tied Marcus Allen at 145 career touchdowns, second place on the career list behind Jerry Rice. Aikman left the game 16 yards short of 30,000 career passing yards.
