Fresh Batch of problems
X-rays show Lions' Batch has fracture on right thumb

Detroit quarterback Charlie Batch hasn't played since Week 9, when he injured his right thumb against St. Louis. Tom Pidgeon/Allsport |
PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) -- Detroit quarterback Charlie Batch, who has missed the Lions' last five games, has a slight fracture in his right thumb.
The lingering injury had been thought to be a sprain, incurred when Batch hit his hand on a defenders' helmet early in the second half of a Nov. 7 victory over the St. Louis Rams. X-rays taken Monday disclosed a tiny fracture, coach Bobby Ross said.
"On injuries of this type, it sometimes takes time for the fracture to show up," Ross said. "It didn't show on the earlier exams."
Despite the injury, Batch is able to throw the ball in practice but can't take snaps.
Gus Frerotte is 2-3 starting in place of Batch. Ross said he would make a decision by Wednesday on who will start this week at Chicago.
