ATLANTA (AP) -- An argument over football, which began in an Atlanta nightclub and moved into the street, may have led to two stabbing deaths in which All-Pro linebacker Ray Lewis is charged, a relative of one of the victims said.

Joyce Lollar, grandmother of Richard Lollar, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that friends of her grandson told her the argument broke out in the Cobalt Lounge during a party after the Jan. 30 Super Bowl.

Lollar and one of his friends, Jacinth Baker, were stabbed to death about 4 a.m. Jan. 31, two blocks from the club.

Joyce Lollar told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that her grandson, Baker, and several of their friends from Akron, Ohio, were celebrating the Super Bowl at the trendy club on East Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead.

Lollar's friends told his grandmother the following account: After Lollar, Baker and their friends left Cobalt, "They were at the tail end of everything, like a crowd of people. The guys jumped out of a limousine on them." She said her grandson and his friend didn't realize their attackers had knives.

Lewis, middle linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, is in the Atlanta Detention Center on murder charges stemming from the deaths. His lawyers deny he was involved in the killings. A bond hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Police say Lewis, 24, rented a limousine that was seen speeding away from the crime scene. The affidavit police used to obtain the arrest warrant against Lewis cited an unidentified witness who said Lewis participated in the "punching, beating and stabbing" of the two men.

Joyce Lollar told the newspaper that her grandson's friends said that after leaving the Cobalt, "They were at the tail end of everything, like a crowd of people. The guys jumped out of a limousine on them."

She said at least six people jumped from the limo and began attacking Baker. She said her grandson and his friend did not realize the assailants had knives.

"Everybody out there started fighting," she said. "My grandson wasn't involved in the fight. All I heard is he was just trying to keep peace, just trying to calm everybody down."

She said the witnesses were reluctant to talk to police.

"I want to be frank. People are afraid. We just keep hoping and praying that whoever did it gets punished," Lollar said.
