Buffalo soldier Riemersma agrees to four-year deal to stay with BillsPosted: Sunday February 13, 2000 05:03 PM
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- Tight end Jay Riemersma agreed with the Buffalo Bills on a four-year contract worth about $12 million, according to published reports Sunday. Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold would not confirm or deny that an agreement had been reached. "Nothing has been signed," Berchtold said. The contract is worth $12,036,000 and includes a $4 million signing bonus, Riemersma's agent, Jack Wirth, and an unidentified team source told a sports Web site. Riemersma, 26, had been scheduled to visit with the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns this week before reaching the deal with the Bills. Buffalo cut defensive end Bruce Smith, tailback Thurman Thomas and wide receiver Andre Reed on Thursday to get under the salary cap. Riemersma joined the Bills as a seventh-round pick in the 1996 draft. Despite missing time with injuries in 1999, he set career highs with 37 catches and 496 yards receiving. In four seasons, he has 88 catches for 992 yards and 12 touchdowns.
