Happy with combine experience

Former Wake Forest defensive tackle Fred Robbins Jr. is expected to be chosen in the second or third round of the 2000 NFL Draft on April 15-16. Robbins was named to the All-ACC Team after a season in which he had 15 tackles behind the line and recorded five sacks. This is the first in a series of draft diaries from Robbins. The NFL draft is an experience that I've always wanted to go through, and now that it's almost here, I'm really getting excited and a little anxious. I don't really feel any pressure, though. I think I did well at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. I'm happy with the results and got a lot of positive feedback from scouts and coaches. At the combine, I ran a 5.02-second 40-yard dash and benched 225 pounds 25 times. I also performed at two private workouts -- March 2, and March 14 -- for coaches. I just did defensive line drills at those workouts. Teams that have shown an interest are the Dolphins, Jaguars, Raiders, Jets, and 49ers. At the Senior Bowl, I got some attention from the Carolina Panthers. I don't really have a preference for which team drafts me. I just want to get a chance to play. It would be fun to play for a Florida team, since my hometown is Pensacola. I grew up a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, along with my father and uncle. My dad, who is 6-foot-9, was a basketball player. I'm 6-foot-4, 302 pounds. In Pensacola, people call me "Little Fred," and my dad, "Big Fred." One of my favorite NFL players is Warren Sapp. I like his intensity. One of my strengths is quickness off the ball, and I think I read blocks pretty well.
Off the field, I'm an easygoing guy. Still, I have a different side on the field. I'm working out daily and keeping myself in shape. The draft experience is a lot different than being recruited out of high school. Coaches and scouts from all the teams in the NFL want to see you work out and to talk with you. Most of the colleges that recruited me simply looked at film. For the most part, the experience is something I've enjoyed. But I'm getting a little bit anxious and will be glad when it's over in two weeks.
