SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- San Francisco 49ers quarterback Steve Young is in the middle of a long, round-the-world honeymoon, but he may have left his football heart in San Francisco.

Young's agent, Leigh Steinberg, told the San Francisco Chronicle his Super Bowl-winning client is interested in returning for his 16th pro season -- and he would like to do it with the 49ers.

In Wednesday's edition, Steinberg said Young, who married the former Barbara Graham on March 14, was completely uncommitted a while back.

"When the season ended, it was really unclear to me what he would do," Steinberg said. "And it's starting to be clearer what he wants to do is return and play."

"When he gets back, we'll sit down with the 49ers and see where he fits into their plans," he added.

Young, a two-time NFL MVP who will be 39 in October, suffered a concussion in the third game last season and sat out the rest of the campaign, which ended with a 4-12 record.

But the newspaper said Wednesday that medical reviews indicate Young's long-term health would not be in jeopardy if he returns to action.

"He'd been focused on other areas in his life, and he's now gone through a thought process," Steinberg said. "Given that he's been given a clean bill of health, he's leaning towards coming back and playing several more years."
