Investigation continuing Police: Drug paraphernalia found in Williams' housePosted: Sunday May 07, 2000 03:09 PM
KENNER, La. (AP) -- Police found marijuana paraphernalia and an unidentified pill in New Orleans Saints' running back Ricky Williams' house when they were called to help an unconscious man. Williams himself was in Austin, Texas, and was letting a friend use the house, team spokesman Greg Bensel said. He said the man hospitalized Saturday was "a friend of a friend" of Williams. Police have not charged the 22-year-old man or released his name. He was incoherent and uncooperative when police arrived about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. Steve Caraway, spokesman for Kenner police. "They eventually got him in the ambulance despite his fighting with police and EMTs," he said. The marijuana paraphernalia was in the house; the pill was on the floor near the man, Caraway said. He said the pill will be tested. One of the other three people in the house told police the man had been smoking marijuana, but police did not know whether he had drugs in his system, Caraway said. He said the investigation is continuing. Williams could not be reached for comment Saturday. Bensel said he spoke with the running back Saturday night. Williams had lent his home to a friend for the second weekend of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Bensel said. "He was really unaware of all the details," Bensel said of Williams. One of the people in the house told police he had been staying there for about a month, Caraway said. Police did not know the victim's connection to Williams.
