Miami Dolphins at Oakland Raiders
Playoff Preview - Ground Raid

January 06, 2001
by: Sportvision

The Raiders' formula for success has been run the football (best in the NFL), get big plays from veterans Rich Gannon and Tim Brown, and play great defense. The Dolphins have the same formula, except they have trouble getting those big plays in the passing game. Look for Oakland to establish Tyrone Wheatley early and try to wear down the Dolphin D - then they'll go for the big plays.

Coaching Points:

  • Tyrone Wheatley (47) is an excellent runner when his shoulders are square to the line and he can run downhill.
  • The Raiders open the hole by pulling a guard and having him lead off tackle.
  • T Lincoln Kennedy (72) double teams Tim Bowens (95), then seals LB Zach Thomas (54).
