Baltimore Ravens at New York Giants
Super Bowl Wrap Up - Starks Realization
January 28, 2001
It seemed improbable that the Ravens defense could live up to the hype it received going into Super Bowl XXXV, but that's exactly what it did, harassing Kerry Collins all day in a convincing 34-7 victory. With a safe (by Ravens standards) 10-0 lead and 3:58 left in the 3rd stanza, CB Duane Starks made the fourth and last Baltimore pick of Kerry Collins and returned it 49 yards for a touchdown and a 17-0 lead. The play began a remarkable sequence of touchdown returns on three consecutive plays, followed by kickoff returns for scores by the Giants' Ron Dixon and the Ravens' Jermaine Lewis. Baltimore held New York to just 150 total offensive yards, the third-lowest output ever in Super Bowl history behind the Vikings in Super Bowl IX and the Patriots in Super Bowl XX.
