Baltimore Ravens at New York Giants
Super Bowl Preview - The Gamblers

January 28, 2001
by: Sportvision

Baltimore's defense gives opponents very few openings. But New York could make them pay if they can get past young CBs Duane Starks and Chris McAlister. One way to do that is going deep on the slant and go route, which is designed to victimize over-aggressive play on the corner. Amani Toomer and Kerry Collins are having their best seasons as pros, and will have to make big plays when the opportunity presents itself in the Super Bowl.

Coaching Points:

  • The Giants want to take advantage of a ball hawking Raven secondary by pump faking to Toomer (81) on the slant, then hitting him deep.
  • Toomer releases upfield and takes two steps inside, making CB Duane Starks (22) drive on what he thinks is a slant.
