SEATTLE (Ticker) --
Seattle Seahawks
coach Mike Holmgren is looking for answers heading into Sunday's game against the
Carolina Panthers
.
The Seahawks have followed up an impressive 3-0 start with a three-game losing streak, leaving Holmgren to question his team.
"The mood stinks right now," Holmgren said. "We've got to decide are we the team that started the season or the team that played the last three games."
Holmgren was visibly upset after last week's 25-17 loss at Arizona when he threw down his headset late in the contest.
Matt Hasselbeck
gave Holmgren plenty to be upset about. He completed a woeful 14-of-41 passes for 195 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions.
Jerry Rice
was a non-factor in his first game for the Seahawks after being acquired from Oakland. He had one catch for 10 yards and also dropped a pass.
A season after making the Super Bowl for the first time in club history, the Panthers are on their way to becoming the fourth straight NFC champion to miss the playoffs the following season.
Beset by injuries, the Panthers have lost four straight games and are in last place in the weak NFC South Division.
"Never in a million years did I think we would be 1-5 at this juncture," Panthers safety
Mike Minter
said. "But it is what it is. Everything is just a little bit off."
The Panthers played without running back
Stephen Davis
(knee) in last week's 17-6 loss to San Diego.
Brad Hoover
filled in and rushed for 99 yards on 24 carries.
Matchup to watch: Seahawks wide receiver
Darrell Jackson
, who had eight catches for 117 yards and a touchdown last week, against left cornerback Ricky Manning Jr.
Series: Carolina won the only other meeting between the teams in 2000.
Next week: Carolina hosts Oakland on November 7 Seattle visits San Francisco on November 7
