EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Four years ago, the
New York Jets
and
Miami Dolphins
staged what has been voted as the greatest Monday Night Football game.
The AFC East rivals meet again on the national stage when the Dolphins visit the Jets.
On October 23, 2000, the Jets rallied from a 30-7 deficit after three quarters and posted a thrilling 40-37 overtime win over the Dolphins here.
"It was like a high school game out there," recalled Dolphins linebacker
Zach Thomas
. "I mean there was no one in the stands, and we really felt we had it won."
The teams have met eight times since the memorable game, with the Jets posting a 5-3 record.
One of the Jets' wins came earlier this season, a 17-9 victory on October 3. Cornerback
Donnie Abraham
made a game-changing play in the third quarter, returning an interception 66 yards for a touchdown.
Dolphins quarterback
Jay Fiedler
was responsible for all four of his team's turnovers. He went 18-of-33 for 206 yards with two interceptions and lost two fumbles.
Curtis Martin
carried the offense for the Jets, rushing for 110 yards and a touchdown.
Last week, the Jets lost to the
New England Patriots
, 13-7 in a battle of unbeatens. New York drove to the New England 27 with 2 1/2 minutes remaining, but
Chad Pennington
threw an incompletion on a 4th-and-8 play.
While the Jets finally lost last week, the Dolphins finally broke into the win column with a 31-14 victory over the St. Louis Rams.
Fiedler completed 13-of-17 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Miami scored four offensive touchdowns, matching its total from the previous six games.
Matchup to watch: Dolphins wide receiver
Chris Chambers
, who had three catches for 128 yards and a touchdown last week, against Abraham.
