CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Terry Glenn had career bests of 13 receptions and 214 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown, as the New England Patriots remained unbeaten with a 19-7 victory over the winless Cleveland Browns. New England (4-0) opened with four wins for the second time in three seasons. The Patriots outgained the Browns, 434-235, and held a 23-12 advantage in first downs. Glenn bettered his previous career highs by three catches and 17 yards. Glenn's 54-yard touchdown reception from Drew Bledsoe completed the scoring nine seconds into the fourth quarter. "We took advantage of things the Browns defense was giving to us," said New England coach Pete Carroll. "They kept giving us a soft corner so we kept taking it and taking it. Bledsoe got pounded today. The Browns defense did a nice job of rushing. They're a difficult defense and they're going to give some teams problems." The 25-year-old Glenn, a Columbus, Ohio native who played at Ohio State, had two first-half fumbles inside Cleveland's 30-yard line. But the Browns failed to capitalize on either as Phil Dawson missed a 38-yard field goal attempt on the first recovery and Cleveland lost two yards on the other. "I got off to a bad start and Drew was making some bad throws," Glenn said. "A lot of people from my hometown of Columbus were here. I guess I was getting a little anxious and trying to do too much." Bledsoe completed 28-of-42 passes for 389 yards in his first game at Cleveland since a 20-13 loss to the Browns in a wild card game in January 1995. It was Bledsoe's second 300-yard passing game of the season and fell 37 yards short of his personal best. "It wasn't pretty but we'll take 4-0. Once again we hurt ourselves in the first half with turnovers. Terry came back and had a great game but he has to hold on to the football. With two turnovers in the red zone it really made the game much harder than it had to be." Tim Couch was 12-of-27 for 195 yards for Cleveland (0-4), which had a lead for the first time this season. Couch tossed a 64-yard pass to fellow rookie Kevin Johnson to make it 7-0, 4:31 into the game. Linebacker Jamir Miller had two sacks for the Browns. "We played all right but we didn't play well enough to win," Miller said. "We are improving every week. They say New England is a playoff team and if New England is a playoff team then we are right there. One or two mishaps and we are right there, the game could have been ours." Glenn's 13 receptions were the most by an opponent against Cleveland. Jesse Jones had 12 catches for the Detroit Lions on September 28, 1986. Adam Vinatieri kicked a 22-yard field goal to pull the Patriots within 7-3, 4:39 into the second quarter. New England drove to the Cleveland 3 on its final possession of the first half, but after consecutive incompletions settled for a 21-yard field goal by Vinatieri 26 seconds before halftime. New England went ahead for good on the first possession of the second half when Terry Allen's three-yard run capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive. The Patriots could have padded the lead when Cleveland's David Dunn fumbled the following kickoff and Kato Serwanga recovered on the Browns 31. But three plays later Vinatieri missed a 42-yard field goal attempt. New England attempted a two-point conversion after Glenn's touchdown, but Bledsoe's pass to tight end Ben Coates was incomplete. Coates did not have a reception.
