CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Eagles ended their victory drought on the road and ended an even longer one in Chicago. Doug Pederson threw two touchdown passes in the first half as the Eagles halted their 18-game road winless streak and won in the Windy City for the first time, spoiling Cade McNown's first NFL start with a 20-16 triumph over the Chicago Bears. Philadelphia won away from home for the first time since a 21-20 victory over the New York Jets on December 14, 1996, snapping its 0-17-1 slide outside of Veterans Stadium. "We're very aware of that," Eagles coach Andy Reid said. "It was very important. We addressed it to each player beforehand, but we tried not to make it a big issue." Duce Staley rushed for 101 yards on 23 carries for the Eagles (2-4), who had lost their first 14 trips to Chicago. Their first visit there came in 1939, a 27-14 loss at Wrigley Field. Pederson, who led Philadelphia to its first win of the season last week with an upset of Dallas, threw a 57-yard scoring strike to Dietrich Jells and a three-yarder to tight end Luther Broughton as the Eagles grabbed a 20-6 halftime lead. Pederson completed 22-of-38 passes for a career-high 228 yards. "Everything is clicking for me," Pederson said. "We picked up where we left off last week." McNown, starting for the injured Shane Matthews, collected his first NFL touchdown pass when he hooked up with Marcus Robinson for an 80-yard bomb on the second play of the second half. That pulled the Bears within 20-13, but it was the only time they reached the end zone. "It hurts a lot when you don't win games," McNown said. "I don't want to be in that position and I don't think we will be very often." Former Eagle Chris Boniol, signed by Chicago earlier this week, kicked a 44-yard field goal, his third of the game, with 7:40 to play. But McNown, the rookie signal-caller who saw limited action in the Bears' first five games, failed to engineer another scoring drive. The former UCLA standout fired incomplete to Robinson on 4th-and-5 at Philadelphia's 31. McNown had one more chance with less than three minutes left, but threw three straight incompletions and the Bears (3-3) punted. Staley's 13-yard gain on the ensuing possession sealed the win for Philadelphia, which had dropped seven of its last eight meetings with Chicago. "We came out with fire in our eyes," Staley said. "Everybody is executing and the quarterback is getting them the ball, and that's what matters most." McNown was 17-of-33 for 255 yards with two interceptions. He connected with Robinson four times for 136 yards. "He made a couple of throws you'd obviously not want him to make and they ended up hurting him," Bears coach Dick Jauron said. "He'll learn from them. But he also made some big plays and he's just going to get better from this." Bears leading receiver Curtis Conway missed the game with an ankle injury. A fumble by Staley led to Boniol's 46-yard field goal that opened the scoring midway through the first quarter. Five plays later, Pederson lofted a pass down the right sideline and hit Jells in stride as the Eagles took a 7-3 lead. Pederson led a 68-yard drive on Philadelphia's next possession, resulting in a 28-yard field goal by Norm Johnson just 42 seconds into the second period. Chicago answered with a 40-yarder by Boniol but Pederson's momentum did not subside. The former backup to Dan Marino and Brett Favre hit Charles Johnson with a pair of completions to push the Eagles to the 3-yard line, then scrambled right before finding Broughton in the back of the end zone for a 17-6 lead. Cornerback Troy Vincent picked off McNown, notching his team-leading fourth interception, to help set up Johnson's 27-yard field goal with 2:39 left before halftime. "This was a game of two halves," Reid said. "The first half, the offense played exceptionally well, but we were stagnant in the second half. Somehow we need to find out how we can put both together." Pederson did the majority of his damage in the first half, completing 16-of-22 for 207 yards. McNown had just 67 yards passing over the first 30 minutes. "I didn't get a feel for being in the game until a couple of series," McNown said. "It took a little bit to get used to, but I felt fine." Curtis Enis gained 86 yards on 24 carries for the Bears, who had won their last two games by a combined six points.
