NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- It did not take long for Butkus Award winner Rocky Calmus to make his presence felt.

Playing with a broken bone in his right hand, the rookie linebacker out of Oklahoma helped stop Lamar Gordon on a two-point conversion attempt with 54 seconds remaining as the Tennessee Titans held on for a 28-26 exhibition victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Marc Bulger tossed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Gordon to bring the Rams within two.

St. Louis had two cracks at the two-point conversion as Tennessee's Wade Davis was called for interference against Chris Taylor in the end zone, moving the ball to the 1.

The Rams tried to go up the middle with Gordon, but he was turned back by Calmus and Rocky Boiman, another rookie out of Notre Dame.

A third-round pick out of North Dakota State, Gordon also scored on a three-yard TD run to give the Rams a 20-14 lead with 1:18 left in the third quarter, but John Simon put the Titans ahead with a one-yard TD scamper 67 seconds into the final period.

Tennessee made it 28-20 on Rafael Cooper's two-yard TD burst with 5:09 remaining.

Tennessee's Steve McNair played the entire first half, but struggled, completing only 3-of-12 passes for 19 yards. Eddie George rushed for 44 yards on eight carries for the Titans.

The Rams played without running back Marshall Faulk while quarterback Kurt Warner saw action in only one series and failed to complete his only pass.

Backup Jamie Martin completed 11-of-15 passes for 95 yards for St. Louis.
