KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Morten Andersen converted his four field-goal attempts and Priest Holmes had a touchdown run as the Kansas City Chiefs posted a 19-9 exhibition victory over the expansion Houston Texans. Andersen, who is entering his 21st NFL season, split the uprights twice in the second quarter and two more times in the third. His 44-yard effort with 13:25 left in the opening half capped a 10-play, 54-yard drive and increased the Chiefs' advantage to 10-3. Holmes broke a scoreless deadlock 9:50 into the contest with a 10-yard TD run around left end. He finished with six carries for 20 yards. Houston rookie David Carr, the first overall pick in the 2002 NFL draft, enjoyed another solid outing. The Fresno State product threw for 123 yards on 8-of-15 passing, but the Texans scored just two field goals in the first half. Kris Brown kicked Houston's three field goals. Rookie Jonathan Wells also impressed. Selected by the Texans in the fourth round, Wells picked up 63 yards on 16 carries. Chiefs quarterback Trent Green completed 7-of-10 passes for 73 yards, but Kansas City struggled defensively. |
