CINCINNATI (Ticker) - The New Orleans Saints will be hoping to see more of this from Deuce McAllister when the games count. McAllister caught a touchdown pass and rushed for another score, lifting the Saints to a 31-23 exhibition victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. In the offseason, the Saints traded running back Ricky Williams to the Miami Dolphins, all but handing the starting job to McAllister, a first-round pick last season. McAllister has enjoyed a solid preseason and had his best game Saturday, catching a 16-yard TD pass from Aaron Brooks in the first quarter and running one yard for a score late in the second to give New Orleans a 21-9 lead. McAllister carried 13 times for 84 yards and added two catches for 22 yards. Brooks completed 12-of-24 passes for 154 yards and a TD. With the regular-season opener 15 days away, the Bengals' muddled starting quarterback job got a little clearer. Jon Kitna started and went 5-of-14 for 101 yards with an interception. Gus Frerotte followed and was 12-of-18 for 157 yards and a TD while former first-round pick Akiki Smith was 14-of-28 for 137 yards with a TD and an interception. |
