EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) - The New York Jets can stake claim to bragging rights. Chad Pennington completed all nine of his passes and threw for two second-half touchdowns, leading the Jets to a 28-7 rout of the New York Giants. The defeat came at a price for the Giants, who lost quarterback Kerry Collins and running back Tiki Barber to injuries in the second quarter. Collins suffered a bruised left shoulder and Barber exited with a pulled right hamstring. Barber, who was injured while headed for an apparent touchdown, carried 13 times for 96 yards. A 2000 first-round pick who remains stuck behind veteran Vinny Testaverde, Pennington threw an 18-yard TD pass to speedy wide receiver Santana Moss in the third quarter, giving Jets a 21-0 lead. He found Kevin Swayne from 24 yards for another score midway through the fourth. Pennington passed for 109 yards after Testaverde played the first half and went 13-of-19 for 127 yards and a touchdown. Curtis Martin carried eight times for 43 yards for the Jets, who improved to 3-0 in the preseason. Delvin Joyce had a six-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter for the Giants, who have lost their last two exhibiton contests following a pair of wins. |
