OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Bill Callahan finally has his first win. Rookie Madre Hill ran 15 yards for a touchdown with 7:19 remaining as the Raiders gave Callahan his first win as coach, 17-10 over the San Francisco 49ers. Replacing Jon Gruden as coach, Callahan watched his veteran Raiders' squad drop its first two exhibition contests in unimpressive fashion. Oakland was a bit better in this one and Hill, an undrafted rookie out of Arkansas, snapped a 10-10 tie with his touchdown run. He carried 10 times for 39 yards. Rich Gannon completed 13-of-20 passes for 88 yards for the Raiders. Backup Marques Tuiasosopo was 8-of-12 for 72 yards and former 49er Rick Mirer completed all five of his attempts for 70 yards. Reggie Barlow scored on a 57-yard punt return in the first quarter and Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 43-yard field goal in the second for Oakland. Backup Tim Rattay threw a 15-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter for the 49ers, who were playing for the third time in 10 days. Rattay was 12-of-19 for 140 yards after starter Jeff Garcia went 8-of-16 for 60 yards. Jeff Chandler kicked a 24-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for San Francisco (1-3). |
