HOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Miami Dolphins spoiled the return of football to Houston.

Ricky Williams rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown as the Dolphins rolled to a 24-3 exhibition victory over the expansion Texans.

It was the first professional football game in Houston since the Oilers lost to Cincinnati on December 15, 1996, then moved to Tennessee. The Texans also christened $449 million Reliant Stadium.

The contest drew 69,432, making it the largest non-Super Bowl crowd to watch a pro football game in Houston. Ironically, the Dolphins won their last Super Bowl title in this city in 1974.

Acquired from New Orleans in an offseason trade to bolster the running game, Williams capped a 13-play drive on the Dolphins' opening possession with a one-yard run.

Rob Konrad and Robert Edwards also scored on short runs for Miami, who won for the first time in three preseason games.

Edwards, who is trying to make it back from a severe leg injury that derailed his career, carried 11 times for 43 yards.

Texans rookie David Carr, the top overall pick in April's draft, completed 6-of-15 passes for 69 yards and two interceptions.

Kris Brown kicked a 46-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for Houston (0-3).
