GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- The Cleveland Browns made an early statement, but the Green Bay Packers had the answers late. Doug Pederson threw a 32-yard touchdown pass in the final minute of the third quarter and safety Todd Franz scored on a 42-yard interception return nine seconds into the fourth as the Packers rallied for a 27-20 exhibition victory over the Browns. Rookie Andre Davis wasted no time getting the Browns on the scoreboard, racing untouched up the middle with the opening kickoff and returning it 93 yards for a touchdown. Cleveland (2-1) made it 14-0 nine minutes later as Tim Couch capped a 77-yard drive with a 33-yard TD pass to Quincy Morgan. Couch connected on 14-of-18 passes for 112 yards before being replaced by Kelly Holcomb in the second quarter after complaining of soreness in his right elbow. Ryan Longwell kicked a 28-yard field goal midway through the second quarter for Green Bay, which climbed within 14-10 at halftime as Pro Bowl safety Darren Sharper returned a blocked field goal 35 yards for a score. Brett Favre played into the third quarter for the Packers (2-1) and found Javon Walker open in the back of the end zone. But the rookie was unable to land inbounds and Green Bay settled for a 33-yard field goal from Longwell. Favre was 10-of-14 for 63 yards with an interception. With 50 seconds left in the period, Pederson rolled left, then lofted a short pass to fullback Chris Gall, who rambled 32 yards for the go-ahead score. On Cleveland's next series, third-string quarterback Josh Booty was picked off by Franz, who extended Green Bay's lead to 27-17. |
