JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Quincy Carter's excellent performance was nearly wasted.

Carter completed a two-point conversion and ran for a touchdown as the Dallas Cowboys held on for a 28-25 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the preseason finale for both teams.

Carter was impressive in the first half, completing 11-of-22 passes for 136 yards. He was sacked for a safety in the first quarter but led the Cowboys in a dominant second quarter.

Robert Thomas scored on a one-yard run three seconds into the quarter before Carter connected with James Whalen for the two-point conversion. Billy Cundiff made two field goals around a five-yard scoring run by Carter as Dallas took a 21-2 lead.

Stacey Mack had a 61-yard touchdown run with 10:52 left in the third and added five-yard score just over 10 minutes later as the Jaguars rallied within 21-16.

Chad Hutchinson was sacked in the end zone 34 seconds into the final period but threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Copeland with 14:38 left as the Cowboys completed a 3-1 preseason.

Ennis Haywood ran for 63 yards on 11 carries for Dallas, which opens the regular season against the expansion Houston Texans on September 8.

David Garrard went 15-of-26 for 167 yards and March finished with 100 yards on 12 carries for Jacksonville, which hosts Indianapolis on September 8.
