Washington had the Hogs (a powerful offensive line), the Smurfs (undersized wideouts Alvin Garrett and Charlie Brown) and the Fun Bunch (a group with an elaborate post-touchdown celebration), but in the end, the game was decided by John Riggins and the Redskins' nickname-less defense. Riggins carried the ball 38 times for a Super Bowl-record 166 yards and a touchdown, while the Washington defense limited Miami to 34 yards and zero points in the second half.
