ATLANTA (CNN/SI) -- Peyton Manning is making mincemeat of the NFL's sophomore jinx. The Indianapolis Colt, only two years removed from the Tennessee Vols, turned into a stallion during Week 3, throwing for a franchise-record 404 yards in the Colts 27-19 victory over the San Diego Chargers.

Manning's receivers caught 29 of his 54 attempts, and his throws resulted in two touchdowns.

How significant is this performance? Well, the quarterback who previously held the record for the most passing yardage as a Colt was Johnny Unitas.

Speaking of quarterback greats, Brett Farve already has established himself as a top-notch engineer of comeback drives, and Sunday he did it again. Farve passed for 349 yards, including the game-winning touchdown with 13 seconds remaining, as the Packers pulled out a 23-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

In the ground game, Tim Biakabutka of the Carolina Panthers and Mike Alstott of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lived up to their potential. Biakabutuka rushed for 132 yards and had two long touchdown runs as the Panthers crushed the Cincinnati Bengals 27-3. Biakabutuka's runs of 62 and 67 yards were the longest in the short history of the franchise.

Alstott bulled his way to 131 yards on 25 carries and scored a touchdown as the Buccaneers defeated the Broncos 13-10.

In the receiving game, once-unsung Marvin Harrison is becoming a regular catcher of Manning's tosses. Harrison caught 12 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' surprising victory over the Chargers.

Best Performance in Losing Effort

The Bengals' Corey Dillon, playing for a miserable team, rushed for 113 yards on 20 attempts, including a 30-yard scamper. He also caught three passes for 24 yards in the Bengals' third consecutive loss.
