ATLANTA (CNN/SI) -- The Vikings' Cris Carter turned in a Week 8 performance that demonstrated why he's one of the most respected receivers in the league.

Carter, who has benefited from the double and triple coverage of teammate Randy Moss, caught eight passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings' 23-20 victory over the Broncos. The fact that he made three clutch catches in the winning drive -- one a beautiful over-the-shoulder toe-dragger on the sideline -- is what set Carter's performance apart.

Three running backs had monster days: the Saints' Ricky Williams, the Redskins' Stephen Davis, and the Colts' Edgerrin James.

Williams turned in a workhorse performance in the Saints' 21-16 loss to the Browns, rushing an astounding 40 times for 179 yards but still no touchdowns in his inaugural NFL season. Davis gained 143 yards on only 12 carries, and James covered a combined 205 yards -- 113 on the ground and 92 on receptions.

In the quarterback ranks, the St. Louis Rams' Kurt Warner -- that name, again -- threw for 328 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in the Rams 24-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
