Week 14 NFL sets record with four 200-yard running backsUpdated: Tuesday December 05, 2000 12:40 AM
By B. Duane Cross, CNNSI.com Cincinnati running back Corey Dillon joined select company with his 216-yard performance Sunday. He is only the eighth player in 81 NFL seasons to have three or more 200-yard games. But he was just part of Sunday's big picture. Denver rookie Mike Anderson (251 yards), Tampa Bay's Warrick Dunn (210) and Curtis Martin (203) of the New York Jets also cracked the 200-yard barrier. Only twice in league history -- including once this season -- had as many as two players rushed for 200-yards on the same day. Dunn's first career 200-yard game came at the expense of Dallas. The Cowboys now have allowed three 200-yard rushers this season, including San Francisco's Charlie Garner (201 in Week 4) and Philadelphia's Duce Staley (201 in Week 1). Before this season, the Cowboys had allowed only two 200-yard rushers in 40 years.
Anderson broke the rookie NFL mark of 246 yards set by Dillon on Dec. 4, 1997. Anderson also broke Terrell Davis' 215-yard single-game rushing record for the Broncos. Martin, who has gained 1,094 yards this season, joined Eric Dickerson and Barry Sanders as the only players to rush for 1,000 yards in their first six seasons. O.J. Simpson holds the record with six 200-yard games. Jim Brown, Earl Campbell and Sanders each had four. Greg Bell, Dickerson, Davis and Dillon each have three. On Week 7 this season, Indianapolis' Edgerrin James rushed for 218 yards and Marshall Faulk of St. Louis gained 208 yards. Washington's George Rogers and Joe Morris of the New York Giants each rushed for more than 200 yards Dec. 21, 1985.
