Saints' triplets prove too much for lowly Panthers

By B. Duane Cross, CNNSI.com

In the storied annals of New Orleans Saints history, no running back had ever posted consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Not George Rogers. Not Dalton Hilliard. Not Rueben Mayes, Chuck Muncie or even Hokie Gajan.

So, move over Earl Campbell, Dwight Beverly and Craig Heyward. With his 27-carry, 102-yard effort Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, Ricky Williams etched his name in the Saints' record book. Following up his 1,000-yard effort in 2000, Williams now has 1,012 rushing yards this season.

But Williams wasn't the only offensive weapon the Saints threw at the Panthers in a 27-23 victory. Quarterback Aaron Brooks was 26-of-40 passing for 330 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. One-half of his completions were to Joe Horn, who had 13 catches for 150 yards and the game-winning 17-yard TD with 1:31 remaining to play.
