The Great Debate

8 - Rare, 7 - Outstanding, 6 - Good, 5 - Adequate, 4 - Marginal, 3 - Poor

Petyon Manning or Ryan Leaf

Strong arm - can make all the throws - goodvelocity & zip on ball, but not a gun. (6.0)

ARM STRENGTH

(7.0) Outstanding arm strength - great zip on ball - can make all the throws - this guy does have a gun.
Exc. feet - good quickness on drop - changes body position - very technically sound. (7.0)

SET UP QUICKS

(6.0) Good feet & overall quickness on his drops - gets a little careless at times, but is getting better.
Throws a very catchable ball - exc. touch - both speeds on passes - very sound. (7.0)

ACCURACY

(6.5) Tends to be up & down in accuracy - needs to change speeds a little better - can be streaky (hot & cold).
Great football background - film fanatic - sees defense - can find 2nd receiver - mature beyond years - great feel. (7.0)

FIELD VISION

(6.0) Room for improvement here - good on primary Rec - needs to get a little better on 2nd & 3rd options - can develop a little more patience.
Is a pure drop-back pocket type passer that will run when he has to, but mobility is not one of his strengths - he’s not a QB that wins with his scrambling. (6.0)

RUN ABILITY

(6.0) A terrific athlete for such a big man - would prefer not to run, but does a better job moving around than most people realize - but will make living in the NFL throwing the ball and not scrambling.
Technically very sound - good release point - has good overall mechanics - good quicknessand release. (7.0)

DELIVERY

(6.0) Some room for improvement - has quick release, but mechanics aren’t always sound, but other qualities compensate - should be able to easily improve here.
Good ball fakes - solid on play action - can freeze LB - very technically sound. (6.5)

BALL HANDLING

(6.5) Handles ball very well - does good job on play action fakes - can get a little careless at times, but correctable.
The consummate professional - absolute leader in the huddle - is student of game - is a player that teammates rally around - handles pressure well. (7.0)

LEADERSHIP

(6.0) A little bit of a free spirit, not quite as disciplined as Manning, but still the leader of his football team - can be very emotional and fiery - may tend to play to the level of his competition.
Has worked hard to improve his body and overall strength, but is still not a real physical looking player, but he has good toughness and can take a hit. (6.0)

SIZE & STRENGTH

(7.0) He is almost a freak of nature - built like a linebacker & strong as an ox, and may be the most physical QB to come along in several years - can take a hit & is very durable.
Not a great natural athlete - has worked hard to put himself in the acceptable category here - better than an overachiever, but not a real fluid guy. (6.0)

ATHLETIC ABILITY

(7.0) Great natural athlete for a big man - outstanding HS basketball player - absolutely gifted in terms of athleticism, and has no physical weaknesses.
He is a great college QB that will become an outstanding NFL QB. He has a tremendous football background, is a student of the game, and is probably more prepared to enter the NFL than any college QB in recent memory. If there is a knock on him, it’s his failure to win big games on the college level, but this guy produces week in and week out. And although he is not a gifted athlete, his intelligence, work ethic and natural passing skills will serve him well as he enters inan NFL career that promises to be very special. 65.5

SUMMARY

64.0 A big, gifted athlete that probably has more upside than Manning in terms of raw ability and overall skills, but is not as developed in the other phases at this stage. His great size and athleticism should be a tremendous asset, as he will probably play for a team that does not have a very good offensive line and supporting cast. He is not quite as polished as Manning, but probably has a bigger upside because of his physical skills, but he must continue to develop in the technical areas of the game. He could be something special.
