Getting it done: Testaverde is 10-1 as a starter this season, including a 34-12 win over the Bills in Week 10 AP

What could have been the ultimate NFL regular-season weekend is now simply the penultimate NFL regular-season weekend. Even though the Broncos aren't quite as unbeaten as they were a few weeks ago, Week 16 has the makings of being the NFL's best this year.

In an odd kind of playoff preview, 10 of the 12 NFL teams with 8 or more wins are playing against each other.

  • The 49ers can make things tougher on the Patriots' wild-card hopes and keep pressure on the Falcons in the NFC West by winning in Foxboro on Sunday.
  • The Oilers' slim postseason chances rest upon their beating the Packers at Lambeau and getting all sorts of help in the next two weeks.
  • The Jaguars need one win to get into the playoffs, but will have trouble getting Sunday night against the Vikings, perfect at home this season.
  • And finally, though not in the Game of the Milennium, the once-beaten Broncos, having stopped worrying about the '72 Dolphins, can now worry about the '98 Dolphins, one of three AFC East teams that are 6-1 at home. This still should be a great game, even if the sideline is less speckled with undefeated greats of the Miami past.

Last week, seven playoff berths could have been wrapped up, and only the Jets obliged. Week 16 offers an even longer list of playoff scenarios -- no matter what happens this week, at least two more teams are in the playoffs.
