GLASGOW, Scotland (Ticker) -- Jonas Lewis ran for 126 yards and a touchdown as the Frankfurt Galaxy became the first team to win three World Bowls with a 35-16 pounding of the Rhein Fire in front of 28,138 fans at Hampden Park.

Lewis carried 16 times and set a World Bowl record for rushing yards. The 5-9, 210-pound Lewis, who was third in the league with 669 yards, was named Most Valuable Player as Frankfurt (7-4) won the World Bowl for the first time since 1999.

Quincy Gray completed 5-of-10 passes for 53 yards and a touchdown for Frankfurt.

The Galaxy took a 4-0 lead on their first possession, when Jon Hilbert booted a 53-yard field goal 2:55 into the game. Lewis capped an eight-play, 79-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to make it 11-0 with 5:42 left in the opening quarter.

Chris Griesen was 14-of-24 for 141 yards for Rhein (7-4), which split two meetings with Frankfurt in the regular season and also was seeking a third World Bowl victory. Griesen tossed a five-yard TD pass to tight end Dwayne Blakely for the final margin with 1:55 remaining.

The Fire closed within 11-3 on a 39-yard field goal by Todd France with 56 seconds left in the first quarter. But a bad snap on a punt gave the Galaxy the ball on the Fire 15-yard line, setting up Gray's 20-yard TD pass to Marc Lester for an 18-3 lead just over five minutes into the second quarter.

Rhein drove to the 3-yard line on its next possession, but defensive end Joey Evans sacked Griesen for a 10-yard loss on third down and the Fire had to settle for a 31-yard field goal by 39-year-old Ingo Anderbrugge to cut the deficit to 18-6 with 3:42 left in the second.

The Galaxy answered on the following possesion as Lewis ran for 42 yards. Robert Gillespie followed with an eight-yard run and a 29-yard touchdown to make it 25-6 just over two minutes before alftime.

Anderbrugge kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, but the Fire again blew a chance to get into the end zone on their first possession in the third quarter. Nick Rolovich had completions of 23 and 18 yards to Blakely and Kendall Newson as Rhein drove to the 1-yard line. But Autry Denson was stopped for no gain on third down by defensive tackle Johnny Thomas and Rolovich fumbled the snap on the next snap.

Frankfurt capitalized as Adam Tate's one-yard burst completed a 10-play, 99-yard drive for a 32-9 advantage with 3:13 to go in the third.
