MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- A brief look at the third Presidents Cup matches (all times EST):

Event: The Presidents Cup, 32 matches between the United States and an International team (excluding Europe).

Dates: Friday-Sunday (starts Thursday EST).

Site: The 6,981-yard, par-72 Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

Defending champion: United States.

Series: U.S. leads, 2-0.

Format: Five matches of alternate-shot and five matches of best-ball on Friday and Saturday. Twelve singles matches on Sunday. In the event of a tie at the end of Sunday, each team will have designated one player for a sudden-death playoff.

Captains: Jack Nicklaus, United States. Peter Thomson, Interational.

Quoting: "All I know is, any time the flags go up, guys want to win," -Steve Elkington, Australian member of the International team

Noting: This is the first time the matches have been played outside the United States.

Television: Wednesday, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., ESPN.
Thursday, 12 a.m. to 1 a.m.; 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., ESPN.
Friday, 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., ESPN.
Saturday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. (tape delay), CBS.
Sunday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (tape delay), CBS.

Time zone: Melbourne is 16 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.
