Colin Montgomerie, who battled Mark Calcavecchia and Vijay Singh for the Honda Classic title last year, has committed to the event at the Tournament Players Club at Heron Bay in Coral Springs. The 35-year-old Scotsman, who still is seeking his first U.S. PGA Tour victory, shot 66 in the final round last year to finish at 13-under-par 275, five shots behind Calcavecchia and two behind Singh. The $194,400 payday and solo third-place finish were Montgomerie's best in a Tour event last year. Montgomerie went on to win his sixth consecutive European PGA Tour Order of Merit, winning three times in Europe for 17 victories overall on his home Tour. Montgomerie also will compete in The Players Championship later this month at the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass, another tournament where he has played well. He missed just his second cut in six Players starts last year (he also missed the cut in his first appearance in 1992) but has been 14th or better in his other four starts. He tied for second behind Fred Couples in 1996.
