MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) -- A look at Sunday's final round of the 81st PGA Championship, played on the 7,401-yard, par-72 Medinah Country Club: Winning: Tiger Woods finally got his second major, shooting an even-par 72 despite a double-bogey and a bogey over the last six holes. Up-and-Coming: Sergio Garcia, Europe's answer to Tiger Woods, finished one stroke behind. If not for dunking his tee shot in the water on No. 2 or a bogey on 15, he might have won the Wanamaker Trophy. Shot of the day: With his tee shot up against a tree, Sergio Garcia went against conventional wisdom and ripped it with a 6-iron -- with his eyes closed, no less. The shot landed on the green, sending Garcia sprinting up the fairway, leaping like a hurdler. He two-putted from 60 feet for par. Purse: $3.5 million. Winner's share: Tiger Woods gets $630,000 for his victory. Sergio Garcia takes home $378,000. Key statistic: Tiger Woods' double-bogey on the par-3 13th was his only double-bogey of the tournament. Noteworthy: At 23 years, eight months and 16 days, Tiger Woods is the youngest player to win two majors since Seve Ballesteros won his second at the 1980 Masters, four days shy of his 23rd birthday. Jack Nicklaus won his second major, the 1963 Masters, at 23 years, two months and 17 days. Quoteworthy: "I know Nicklaus had a wonderful record at an early age and he won numerous championships. But whether that puts me on the same track, it's hard to say." -- Tiger Woods, on whether puts him on track to match Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 majors. |
