In the most dramatic major of the year, Woods birdied the last two holes to force a playoff with Bob May, both playing the back nine in 31. In the first three-hole playoff in PGA history, Woods ran after a 25-foot putt that fell for birdie on the 16th hole, and May never caught up. Woods and May set the PGA record at 18-under par (270). Woods became the first back-to-back winner since the PGA went to stroke play in 1958, and the first to win three majors in one year since Ben Hogan in 1953. |

Woods can become the first player to win two majors in one year in the same state, having already won the Masters. |
