Happy returns PGA to return to Atlanta Athletic Club in 2011ATLANTA (AP) -- The Atlanta Athletic Club will play host to its fourth major when the PGA Championship returns to the club in 2011. The announcement was made Sunday on the 18th green during the trophy presentation to David Toms, who won the 83rd PGA Championship by one stroke over Phil Mickelson. "The Atlanta Athletic Club embodies everything we seek in a site for the PGA Championship," PGA of America president Jack Connelly said. "This week, it proved it was deserving." Connelly praised the condition of the golf course, which underwent a $2.5 million renovation in the mid-1990s. He also cited sellout crowds totaling more than 30,000 a day, plus the overall community support. The athletic club was site of the 1976 U.S. Open and the 1981 PGA Championship. It will become only the fifth club to play host to three PGA Championships. Firestone, Oakmont and Southern Hills already have held three PGAs, while Oakland Hills will be site of the 2008 event for its third. Next year's PGA will be held at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
