Blond Ambition, Indeed
Honk if you're Swedish. Jarmo Sandelin won in Barcelona and Jesper
Parnevik prevailed in Greensboro, N.C., bringing us to Brookline,
Mass. Sandelin's the lone Swede in the top 10 on the Euro Ryder Cup
list because PGA Tour results don't count. Parnevik (104th) will be
a captain's pick. Gabriel Hjertstedt (154th) might be. Robert
Karlsson (12th), Patrik Sjöland (14th) and Per-Ulrik Johansson (21st)
could make the team, too.

PGA
Parnevik is the first wire-to-wire winner on Tour since Ernie Els at
the '97 Buick Classic ... Assuming he pocketed the standard 10% of Parnevik's
$468,000 winner's share, Lance Ten Broeck earned more caddying last week
than he has won on Tour in the last five years
combined.
LPGA
Déjà vu. Australia's Rachel Hetherington birdied
the final hole of regulation and the first hole of a playoff to defeat Lorie
Kane at the Chick-fil-A Charity Championship at Eagles Landing Country Club
in Stockbridge, Ga. In her only other win, over Annika Sorenstam at last year's
Betsy King Classic, Hetherington also birdied the last hole of regulation and
the first hole of sudden death ... Fellow Aussie Karrie Webb ,who missed a
five-footer on 18 that would have put her in the playoff, tied for third and has
still finished no worse than eighth in eight starts in '99 ... Barb Mucha
made 11 birdies (including seven straight) on Saturday to tie an LPGA record on
the way to a 62, her career-low by three strokes. She tied for
sixth.
SENIOR
With Bruce Fleisher's win at the Home Depot Invitational ,
which he secured with a three-foot birdie putt on the final hole at the TPC at
Piper Glen in Charlotte, rookies have won more than half (six of 11) the
tournaments in '99.
ALSO
By winning the Peugeot Open de España, Sandelin moved
from 13th to fifth in the Ryder Cup standings ... Sergio Garcia , 19, shot
67-73-70-69 to finish 25th in his first start as a pro, which was better than
Jack Nicklaus (50th) and Tiger Woods (60th) in their pro
debuts.
