RENO, Nev. (AP) - Sergio Garcia, the young Spaniard who's been touted as a rival to Tiger Woods on the PGA tour, will play in the Reno-Tahoe Open next month, tournament officials said.

Tournament director Jim Kline said he called Garcia's office Monday and was told he plans to attend.

"Other than Tiger Woods, Sergio is currently the biggest draw on Tour," Kline said.

Like all the players, Garcia has until August 18 to make a final commitment to play in the Reno-Tahoe Open, which occurs August 21-27 at Montreux Golf & Country Club.

Most of the top players in the world will be competing that week in the World Golf Championships-NEC Invitational.

But Garcia, who splits his time between the PGA and European tours, hasn't acquired enough points or earnings to qualify for that event.

The day after the Reno tournament, Garcia will take on Woods in a live-telecast golfing duel in Palm Desert, California.
