WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Jaxon Brigman, whose scorecard error two years ago kept him from getting his tour card, shot a 66 and was among seven players tied for the lead Wednesday after the first round of the PGA Tour qualifying tournament.

Ty Tryon, the 17-year-old who is trying to become the youngest player to earn his PGA Tour card, was only four strokes back after opening with a 70.

Scores were so low that Tryon's 70 left him in a tie for 59th. Only the top 35 players and ties after the six-round tournament will get exempt status on the PGA Tour next year.

Brigman should have made it two years ago when he shot 65 in the final round to tie for the final spot. But his marker inadvertently put him down for a 4 on a hole where Brigman had made a 3. He signed for a 66, and had to accept the higher score.

He missed his card by that one stroke.

There is still a long way to go until cards are handed out on Monday. Also at 66 were Craig Bowden, Lee Porter, Boo Weekley, Eduardo Herrera and Kevin Durkin.

Ted Tryba, one of 15 PGA Tour winners who had to go back to Q-school, was among those at 67, while Gary Nicklaus was in the group at 68.

Aaron Baddeley, a 20-year-old who already has won the Australian Open twice, and heart-transplant recipient Erik Compton of Miami, were at 71.
