Kuwabara grabs share of Aiful Cup lead Posted: Saturday July 24, 1999 10:57 AM
AJIGASAWA, Japan (AP) -- Katsunori Kuwabara sank six birdies in a bogey-free round Saturday to share a one-stroke lead with American Todd Hamilton and Toru Taniguchi after three rounds in the $750,000 Aiful Cup. Kuwabara, seeking his first victory of the season and third overall, birdied the first hole and added five more birdies, including the one at the finishing hole, en route to a 10-under-par 206 total. "I wasn't putting very well even though I could hole quite a few long putts," said Kuwabara. "I didn't have any trouble because I got it on the right place, missing the green only two times." Hamilton, gunning for his eighth victory in Japan, had three birdies and one double-bogey for a 1-under 71 and a 206 total. Taniguchi offset a triple-bogey at the par-3 sixth hole and a bogey on the 11th with five birdies also for a 71 and an aggregate of 206. Defending champion Hidemichi Tanaka shot a 67 and shared fourth at 9-under 207 with five others.
