COOLUM, Australia, Dec 18 (Reuters) -- Organizers of
Australia's Coolum Classic reduced the tournament to 54 holes
after torrential downpours washed out Saturday's third round.
Only about a dozen players actually made it on to the course
before they were ordered back to the club house just after at 8
a.m.
The round was eventually abandoned shortly after midday,
with most of the greens already flooded and the fairways and
bunkers starting to take water.
Australasian PGA Tour Director Trevor Herden said later the
organizers had decided to cancel the round and start the final
round as scheduled on Sunday.
"The golf course was not in good enough condition to
play," Herden said.
"The tournament will be reduced to 54 holes. It was
extremely wet and the forecast for the rest of the day was not
good. We'll come back tomorrow morning and complete the
tournament"'
Australians Craig Parry and Nick O'Hern and New Zealand's
Paul Devenport will go into the final round sharing the lead at
seven under par. They were one shot clear of a group of five
players at six under.
