TORONTO (AP) -- Robert Esmie has been left off of Canada's team for the men's 4x100 meter relay.

Esmie ran the lead leg in Canada's gold-medal performance at the 1996 Olympics.

He left the squad last summer saying the group had lost its family atmosphere.

Esmie had said he wanted to return and claims he has been snubbed because of politics.

Other members of the team are Olympic 100-meter champ Donovan Bailey, Glenroy Gilbert, and Bruny Surin.

Athletics Canada president John Thresher says Esmie's minor hamstring injury was a factor in the decision to leave him off of the team.

But Esmie says he is healthy and ready to run. Bailey and Sunin will compete in the 100 meters Tuesday night.
