Triathlon route changed Posted: Friday July 24, 1998 07:08 PM
NEW YORK (AP)-- Goodwill Games organizers said Friday that the route of Saturday's triathlon would be changed to avoid Times Square, which has been closed since Tuesday because of a construction accident that killed one person. Instead of heading up Sixth Avenue from 42nd Street, the bicycle portion of the race will turn north on Fifth Avenue to Central Park, where the final running leg begins. The accident, involving a construction elevator and scafolding at the 48-story Conde Nast building on 43rd Street, forced the closing of sections of Sixth Avenue, Seventh Avenue and Broadway, as well as 41st, 42nd and 43rd streets.
